GP2 » Dennis: No obvious talent in GP2 class of '08

He might not have been on his way to Woking anyway, but Bruno Senna has not rated highly on McLaren boss Ron Dennis' talent radar this year - and neither has eventual champion Giorgio Pantano.

gotta say, much as i kinda like pantano the gp2 field this year was probably the poorest yet, none of them have really taken hold of the races except maybe di grassi who missed 3 rounds but has been fairly solid with good results, we'll see what next year brings, hopefully pantano will get a decent irl ride or something

Yes, no-one has dominated but doesn't that show how competitive the series is?

I don't think Pantano will graduate to F1 because he has been around for ages, whereas the likes of Grosjean, di Grassi, Senna amd Buemi, they are young and can only get better and faster.

I recon Grosjean or di Grassi could be at Renault next season with Buemi or Senna at Torro Rosso.

Maldonado stood out for me - bit reckless, but only a couple of points off 2nd in the end. His driving style would look good in F1, in my mind. Other than that, di Grassi beating Grosjean after 3 less rounds will do his reputation no end of good.

Senna and Buemi will probably be up for Toro Rosso seat, although Buemi has more F1 miles than Senna. Think Senna needs a year F1 testing, because he is still quite inexperienced as a racer, even if he has learnt quickly so far.

As for Pantano, I think this has come too little too late, although the title remains richly deserved for both him and the team - maybe IndyCar beckons instead.

Yes, di Grassi did an amazing job considering he missed three rounds!

In my opinion, I think it could have been miles better than it turned out to be. Grosjean missed out on a number of wins some self inflicted, others not, Barcelona (penalty) France (mechanical) Germany(won but got a penalty) Valencia (leading but got punted out by Fillipi). Senna hit a dog in turkey had many mechanical failures and lost a win at spa because of the stewards. I think it's a double edged sword, if someone is dominating then it gets boring whereas if you look at this year and last year, 12 different drivers won a race, if they can perform at this level then i think there is alot of potential talent. Give Grosjean another year in GP2 and he'll be really good.

I´ve attended several F1 and GP2 events in live and believe me and the GP2 has been the pooriest one I´ve never watched. Some drivers looked like junior karting racers. There were some "impresive" names mentioned at the begining of the championship, but I never was impresived by one of them, maybe with the exception of Di Grassi.Senna, seems to be the closest one to be up in F1, with Grosjean to follow him. If you looked at Zuber and Maldonado they raced as if they were driving a sweeper or a bumper truck pushing everyone out of the track which in some instances the track width seemed to be too narrow for them, they should go back to F3. :? Chandock may have a chance with the new team. :?

I agree & disagree. There's plenty of talent, most notably for me Grosjean. But I really don't see any driver that I personally would see fit to sign for a full race season in F1. Senna has been good but he'd seem like a bit of a gamle at the moment. A year of testing would probably do him good. LdG would seem the best choice out of the lot for me, he has been a lot more steady and collected than BS, plus he really did lift his team. Should be an exciting season next year though, with RG favourite but many drivers that should be capable of challenging him if they find a good seat. I think D'Ambrosio, for instance, has been improving a lot toward the end of season.
