The QI-Meritus team is targeting a good haul of points during the latest round of the GP2 Asia Series as they ready themselves for their first 'night-time' experience in Qatar.
Sticking with the revised driver line-up they debuted last time out at Bahrain, Marco Bonanomi will continue to race alongside Earl Bamber in the first GP2 event to be run under floodlights.
For Bonanomi, a good performance at Losail is vital after an encouraging outing at Bahrain, which included a top ten qualifying position, was undermined by stalling at the start of the feature race.
Nonetheless, the Italian is confident he showed front-running pace on his return to the series and is keen to translate that into points and possibly a podium in Qatar.
"I expect to show the same potential as in Bahrain but fight for my first points and even a podium. The Losail International Circuit is a new track for all drivers. A night race has different characteristics, but I am confident, especially with the good job that our mechanics will do to prepare the car.
“I have watched some videos from the Motorcycle GP race at the Losail track and have taken notes. A night race will be much more exciting for sure."
Team-mate Bamber, meanwhile, is looking to get back into the points after just missing out in Bahrain, the 18-year-old adding that he feels good after embarking on an intensive training programme.
"The team definitely has good potential. We can be one of the top teams in the points with both cars. I feel prepared for the upcoming race after having completed a 12 day training program in the UK. The Losail International Circuit looks like it will make for a very competitive weekend.”
