Nico Hulkenberg is unlikely to see out the remainder of the GP2 Asia season despite his win in Qatar putting him in with a shout of the title.
Hulkenberg made his debut for reigning champions ART, the team he will also race with in the European-based summer series, in Bahrain, the German marking his debut with a pole position and two strong points' finishes.
The reigning Formula 3 Euroseries champion went on to claim pole position, victory and the fastest lap at Losail, results that have lifted him into outside title contention already with two rounds remaining.
However, despite his success, Hulkenberg has revealed that he won't be racing in Sepang and Bahrain, with his forthcoming team-mate, Pastor Maldonado, taking over the seat for the remaining two rounds.
“I think I'm not going to do the remaining rounds. Pastor Maldonado will be replacing me,” he said. “I'm only doing Bahrain and Qatar.”
Sakon Yamamoto will continue to drive the second ART car having signed for a whole season.
