DAMS Kamui Kobayashi revisited the scene of his maiden GP2 Series success by posting the fastest time of the sole practice session ahead of this weekend's GP2 Asia Series resumption in Malaysia.

The Japanese driver headed a DAMS 1-2 at the end of the half hour, beating out the challenge of team-mate Jerome d'Ambrosio by two-tenths of a second in a largely trouble-free session.

Kobayashi posted a 1min 46.432secs benchmark, and only Piquet GP's Roldan Rodriguez got as close to the Toyota F1 test driver as d'Ambrosio, although the top eleven drivers were all within a second. Rodriguez's team-mate, Diego Nunes, continued the symmetrical appearance to the head of the timesheets, before Vitaly Petrov (Campos), Davide Valsecchi (Durango, Alvaro Parente (Meritus) and Edoardo Mortara (Arden) gave the order some variety as they all also ducked into the 1min 46secs bracket.

Third in the championship Sergio Perez was the first driver in the 47s, ahead of ART's Pastor Maldonado, who replaces the man - Nico Hulkenberg - currently tied with the Mexican on 25 points.

The session had just two yellow flag 'interruptions', giving the majority of the 26 drivers ample time to prepare ahead of this afternoon's qualifying session, although the prospect of rain may yet render all the acquired date useless. Only Meritus' Marco Bonanomi struggled with major problems during the session, failing to record a time at what is the team's home race.
