Super Nova duo Filippi and Villa receive grid penalties

Luca Filippi and Javier Villa have both been handed three-place grid penalties for the first GP2 Series race of the main 2009 season, for failing to pay sufficient attention to yellow flags in free practice for the Barcelona curtain-raiser this weekend.

The Super Nova pairing lapped respectively ninth (Villa) and 24th (Filippi) out of the 26 drivers present in Saturday morning practice around the Circuit de Catalunya, but found themselves in hot water for failing to slow down adequately when the yellow flags flew early on for a spin by Piquet GP's Alberto Valerio.

Filippi himself spun in avoidance as he came across the incident behind Villa, and both drivers were subsequently penalised by race stewards, who took a dim view of their behaviour.
