Gonzalez to make GP2 return at Nurburgring

8 July 2009

Trident Racing will have a revised line-up for the resumption of the GP2 Series after a brief summer break, with Rodolfo Gonzalez making his debut in the main series at the Nurburgring this weekend.

The 23-year old Venezuelan, who stepped up to GP2 during the second Asia Series during the winter, will replace Italy's Davide Rigon alongside Ricardo Teixeira, the Angolan having been part of the Trident set-up since the closing rounds of the off-season campaign, after the reigning Superleague Formula 'champion' ran into sponsorship problems.

Gonzalez scored two points while running with FMSI in the Asia Series but, unable to land a full-time ride for the summer season, kept his hand in by racing in Euroseries 3000.

Trident admits, however, that it is keen to find ways of keeping Rigon in the fold, having invested in the Italian when it appeared that he may miss out on the chance to show what he could do in the F1 feeder series. The team is currently waiting for feedback on 'economic support' that would allow Rigon to return to the cockpit at a future round.
