Valsecchi departure tied to Grosjean move?

Davide Valsecchi's decision to leave the Durango is widely expected to be followed by a second announcement confirming as Romain Grosjean's replacement at Barwa Addax.

The Italian team revealed Tuesday that Valsecchi's management had requested the immediate end to his contractual obligations, but shed no light on why the two-time GP2 Series race winner was departing. However, series insiders claim that, as soon as Grosjean is confirmed as Nelson Piquet Jr's replacement at Renault F1, Valsecchi will be named as Vitaly Petrov's new team-mate at the former Campos team.

The rumour has a strong basis too, for Valsecchi joined the Renault Driver Development scheme, alongside Grosjean, in January and the Campos/Addax set-up has frequently provided a home for the regie's protégés, with Lucas di Grassi and Ben Hanley - ironically no longer part of the scheme - having both raced under the banner. Speculation also suggests that Valsecchi may follow in Grosjean's footsteps by becoming Renault's next nominated test and reserve driver.

Durango has yet to nominate a replacement for the Italian alongside another former RDD prospect, Nelson Panciatici, for next weekend's Valencia round.
