Coletti lands Durango opportunity

While official word has yet to be received regarding Davide Valsecchi's expected switch to the Barwa Addax team, Durango Corse has moved to name the Italian's replacement within its ranks for this weekend's European GP support round in Valencia.

The Italian team has named F3 Euroseries stand-out Stefano Coletti to fill Valsecchi's seat alongside fellow rookie Nelson Pantiatici, providing the versatile 20-year old with another series to add to his 2009 resume, having already sampled World Series by Renault machine on home soil earlier in the year.

“I know that, in Valencia, I have a very difficult job to do, but this GP2 debut is a chance I could not miss," the double Euroseries racewinner commented, "So, today, I know it will be difficult, but I am very happy as well."

Coletti has been on Durango's radar for some time, thanks to a team manager Ivone Pinton's links with the family, and the Valencia weekend completes a circle that started with the youngster's first run out of karts.

“Stefano's father is a long-time personal friend of mine, which means I've known Stefano since he was born," Pinton revealed, "He ran his first tests and races in a single-seater under our wing, with myself as supervisor, so having him as a GP2 driver means something special to me. However, beyond the personal meanings, I am sure that he will grace Durango with his presence.”

Valsecchi, who brought Durango two wins during his time with the team, is expected to be named as new Renault F1 pilot Romain Grosjean's replacement at Barwa Addax within the next 24 hours.
