Belgian court frees Coloni to race at Monza

Coloni Motorsport appears set to return to the GP2 Series fray on home soil at Monza, two weeks after being denied the chance to race at Spa-Francorchamps when its assets were seized as part of a legal battle.

Now, a Belgian court has ruled that the action, initiated by lawyers acing on behalf of snubbed Coloni/Fisichella Motor Sport International hopeful Andy Soucek, was 'illegitimate', freeing the Italian outfit to reclaim its cars and equipment and race at Monza.

Passing judgement, the court in Verviers withdrew the seizure of the team's truck and cars, declaring void any previous ruling amid claims that the seizure was obtained by omitting information and legal papers, which would have shown that the request had few, if any, grounds for being granted. According to information emerging following the ruling, it was reported that Soucek's lawyers asked the court for a writ in order to be allowed to seize the cars just minutes before the start of free practice at Spa, an action designed to ensure that, with no time to react, Coloni would be forced to skip the Belgian event.

Andreas Zuber and Luiz Razia will continue to drive the PartyPoker.com-sponsored cars in the final two rounds of the season.
