Durango to skip home race

Durango Corse has revealed that it has had to withdraw both its entries from this weekend's penultimate GP2 Series round, after Stefano Coletti failed to recover from the effects of his Spa-Francorchamps shunt.

Already down to one car after Coletti's Spa mount was written off in the Saturday feature race, the Italian outfit - which won last year's Monza sprint with Davide Valsecchi - had hoped to run its young protege in its #22 machine but, when Coletti reported pain on arrival at Monza, Durango was left with no option but to scratch that too.

"Following the serious accident that occurred at Spa, which made the car involved unusable, Durango took the decision to enter the Monza GP2 Series event just with one single-seater driven by the fastest of the two drivers, Stefano Coletti," an official statement confirmed.

"Two days ago, Stefano had a test drive at the wheel of an F3000 car, this test delivering positive results. Consequently, the team was ready in Monza for the home race when, yesterday afternoon during the technical scruteneering, Stefano suffered some pain that forced him to give up.

"At this point, the lack of time made his substitution impossible. Durango, the 2008 Monza winning team, has been forced not to enter the 2009 Monza event. All the effort has been immediately focused on the next event in Portimao."

Durango has confirmed to Crash.net, there was no option for the team to use Nelson Panciatici, who had previously occupied the #22, because the Frenchman had been released from his deal 'due to major contractual problems caused by his management'.
