Herck leads Paul Ricard test

Michael Herck sets the quickest time for DPR during three-day GP2 test at Paul Ricard
Michael Herck set the quickest time at Paul Ricard during the latest post-season test of the GP2 season – the final one of the year.

The DPR man set his time on the opening afternoon to ensure his place at the head of the times, with James Jakes then leading the way on the second and third days of running.

Herck led the way on the opening morning of the test on Tuesday, posting a best time of 1min 12.976secs to put him less than a tenth of a second clear of iSport's Oliver Turvey and Racing Engineering man Christian Vietoris. Herck then improved his time during the afternoon to a best of 1min 12.271secs ahead of Fabio Leimer and Sam Bird – with Herck's time then remaining unbeaten for the remainder of the week.

Jakes then moved to the head of the field for Super Nova on the second day of running as the Briton set about stamping his authority on the remainder of the test.

A quickest time of 1min 12.346secs during the morning proved to be the fastest lap of the day, with Luis Razia going quickest in the afternoon. Razia however was unable to knock Jakes off the top of the timesheets for Wednesday's running.

Day one pacesetter Herck meanwhile saw his times during the afternoon session disallowed after his car was found to be underweight. Charles Pic suffered a similar problem for Racing Engineering.

Jakes was once again quickest on the final day of running, setting a best time of 1min 12.516secs during the morning session. That saw the Super Nova man outpace F3 Euroseries title winner Jules Biachi and DAMS driver Stefano Coletti on the final morning of running this season.

The final afternoon was dominated by rookie drivers, who locked out the top seven positions on the times. Turvey was quickest for iSport ahead of Coletti and Sam Bird although none of the drivers was able to beat Jakes' quickest time of the day – or Herck's benchmark for the week.
