Mortara set for Macau F3 return

Edoardo Mortara has set his sights on the top step of the podium for this weekend's Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix.
2009 GP2 Series driver Edoardo Mortara will make a spectacular return to the streets of Macau for this weekend's prestigious Formula 3 Grand Prix.

Mortara will return to his spiritual home by rejoining the Volkswagen-powered Signature team for this year's assault at Macau glory.

Macau is the creme de la creme of the Formula 3 season and for Edoardo the event represents an important opportunity to remind the world of his racing talents after a difficult season in F1's feeder series GP2.

Mortara has demonstrated an impressive raw talent around Macau's historic street track in the past two years.

The 22-year-old Italian dominated last year's event with Volkswagen and Signature, posting the quickest time in both practice sessions and winning the qualification race to start the race from pole position. Although he was unable to convert his stunning pole into a win, he was still able to claim second position and a place on the Macau podium.

"It is a real honour and privilege for me to get behind the wheel of a Volkswagen-powered Signature Formula 3 car again,” he said. “I have always enjoyed a very good relationship with Volkswagen and Signature. We had a very competitive package in last year's event and I look forward to fighting for victory."
