van der Garde inks deal with Barwa

Official: Giedo van der Garde signs to compete in the 2010 GP2 'main' Series for Barwa Addax.
Giedo van der Garde will race for the Spanish Barwa Addax Team in the 2010 GP2 'main' Series.

After excellent results and a positive co-operation during the official GP2 test day in Jerez last month the team decided to sign the Dutchman as their first driver for next season.

Last season van der Garde finished seventh in his first GP2 year with the iSport International team and won races at Spa-Francorchamps, the Hungaroring and Monza. He ended the season as the top rookie behind champion Nico Hulkenberg.

"I believe Barwa Addax Team has everything to enable me to develop and get the best out of my talent," said van der Garde. "During the test I immediately felt that the team and car suited me perfectly.

"We have a lot of confidence moving forward and the belief we can fight for the championship."

Alejandro Agag, team principal from Barwa Addax Team, reckons that his new signing has a lot of potential.

"We are very happy to have Giedo on board for the GP2 Main Series 2010. The test in October showed that Giedo is a very capable driver and able to achieve extremely impressive times in our car," Agag added. "With Giedo we will fight for the championship."
