Bird fills ART line-up

Sam Bird joins Jules Bianchi in the ART line-up for the 2010 GP2 season
ART Grand Prix has completed its driver line-up for the 2010 GP2 season by confirming that British driver Sam Bird will partner F3 Euroseries title winner Jules Bianchi.

Bird joined the team for the GP2 Asia Series and secured a front row slot on the grid in Abu Dhabi and then secured a podium finish for the team while competing in the end of season Macau F3 Grand Prix.

The deal will see Bird complete the remainder of the Asia Series before the main campaign kicks off in the Spring.

“I'm obviously very pleased to be joining ART Grand Prix,” Bird said. “Their success speaks for itself and having spent quite a bit of time with the team over the past couple of months, I can say that they are a brilliant group of people.

“Driving for ART is a dream for any single-seater driver and I would like to thank Frederic Vasseur, in particular, for handing me this opportunity.”

Team boss Vasseur was also delighted to confirm that Bird will complete the defending champion's line-up, with an all-rookie pairing chasing title success.

“I am delighted that Sam is joining us for the entire GP2 season,” he said. “I have followed him closely for several years and always felt that circumstances had not always enabled him to express what I believe is a great talent. When we gave him the chance to prove himself in Abu Dhabi, he took the opportunity and impressed us.

“At the Paul Ricard test, with our main series car, again, he was consistently quick and remained a front-runner with other teams in the subsequent days.

“I think that Jules and Sam make a very competitive and exciting line-up. They are both rookies, but the top drivers have the ability to make a big impact immediately, as we have seen in the past. I am confident that Sam will have a very good season with us and I expect success for him in GP2 and beyond.”

Dangerous. Two rookies in one team, this may yet be a disadvantage because of their lack of experience with seups, long races, and the car. Having one experienced teammate always helps, Hulk and Hamilton did not win with rookies next to them. This is rather questionable.
