Barwa Addax bring in van der Garde for Abu Dhabi

Official: Giedo van der Garde to drive for Barwa Addax in Abu Dhabi.
Giedo van der Garde will replace Max Chilton at Barwa Addax for the GP2 Asia Series race of Abu Dhabi from February 5-6, it has been announced.

van der Garde has been brought in as preparation for the forthcoming GP2 Main Series, where the race of Abu Dhabi has been added to the calendar. Chilton is expected to return to Barwa Addax for the following two rounds in Bahrain.

"I am very thankful to the team for giving me this seat for the race," said van der Garde. "My goal is to know the track and team better! Besides that I hope to contribute to the development of the car for the last races in the Asia Series.

"It is good to get some rhythm again and to look where I am physically. The last period I trained really hard and am feeling physically very fit."

"We think it is a good decision to let Giedo get to know the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi better," added Barwa Addax's Alberto Longo. "The track has been added to the European calendar and will be the last race of the season.

"We want to fight for the championship and we need to prepare ourselves as well as possible. Decisions in standings are always made at the end of the season so that is why we made this choice."
