Bridgestone has been the sole tyre supplier and an official partner of the GP2 Series since the inception of the one-make championship in 2005, but has now seen its European run in the series come to an end.

With Bridgestone leaving the series at the end of 2010, Monza marked the final European GP2 race for the highly experienced motorsport tyre manufacturer, with just the season finale in Abu Dhabi remaining this season.

Following the Italian Grand Prix, Bridgestone has supplied a total of approximately 45,000 tyres for European races in the GP2 Series over the last six years - covering a total of 119 GP2 races that have been held across the continent from 2005 to the end of 2010.

"The Bridgestone Technical Centre Europe in Rome, Italy, has been supplying tyres to the GP2 Series for three consecutive years now, with Bridgestone's GP2 tyre production previously being based in Japan," Franco Annunziato, senior vice president of technology for Bridgestone Europe, said. "Since 2008, the first year of Bridgestone Europe's involvement in the series, the GP2 car has developed considerably in terms of aerodynamics, which is an important evolution, making the car significantly faster.

"This has made the performance and contribution from the tyres increasingly important. It has also meant the tyre specifications have become more technical.

"We are proud to have had the opportunity to participate in GP2. In addition, we are delighted that the GP2 Series organisers have always been fully satisfied with, and complimentary towards, the quality and performance of Bridgestone's tyres."
