Rossi and Palmer confirmed for GP2 Final

Alexander Rossi will compete at the GP2 Final in Abu Dhabi for Caterham Team AirAsia, while Jolyon Palmer has secured a seat with the 2011 champions Barwa Addax.
American race driver Alexander Rossi will be competing at the GP2 Final next week, taking the wheel of a Caterham Team AirAsia car at Abu Dhabi, before going on to take part in the F1 Young Driver Test for the team's Grand Prix counterparts Team Lotus.

"We are very excited to have Alexander Rossi back onboard for the Abu Dhabi GP2 race and the subsequent F1 test," said team principal Riad Asmat. "He worked very well with the GP2 team during the tests in Spain and it will be great to continue that working relationship in addition to giving him more exposure to the F1 environment with Team Lotus," he continued, adding that Rossi had shown "maturity and confidence on track."

Rossi has spent 2011 competing in the World Series by Renault, and was understandably excited to be heading to the Yas Marina Circuit for next weekend's one-off GP2 exhibition weekend. "After the positive GP2 tests in Jerez and Barcelona I feel we have a good chance of a strong result in the GP2 races and I will definitely be going into the weekend fully focused and motivated for a race win," he said. "Looking at the team's past results I see no reason why we can't achieve that.

"For the F1 test I will be looking to learn as much as possible, do the best job I can and soak up every minute, in and out of the car," he added. "The Yas Marina circuit is really pretty impressive. The track itself has some quite slow corners and not a great deal of overtaking opportunities, but it seems to combine a road course with a circuit course."

Meanwhile British driver Jolyon Palmer will be driving for Barwa Addax at Abu Dhabi, it's been announced. Palmer tested with the team at the recent Jerez and Barcelona tests and was in the top ten on both days.

"I am very happy to be driving for Addax in Abu Dhabi, I feel comfortable with the team," said Palmer, who has already had race experience on the Yas Marina Circuit in the GP2 Asia race weekend at the start of the year. "I am confident I will be able to run towards the front," he said.

"Jolyon has made good progress with us during his two days of testing at Jerez and Barcelona, and following recent preparation on the Addax driving simulator he is ready to impress at a GP2 track," said Chris Murphy, technical director for the team that won the 2011 GP2 constructors championship with Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic behind the wheel.

Caterham Team AirAsia and Addax will announce team mates for Rossi and Palmer respectively in the next few days.
