Last chance to vote for your GP2 Driver of the Year
15 December 2011 The last chance to vote for your GP2 Driver of the Year has now passed. Keep watching for the results to be unveiled shortly!
GP2 has always taken great pride in being F1's 'feeder series', the place where you get to see tomorrow's Grand Prix stars today.
It's the place that launched drivers including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Timo Glock and Vitaly Petrov into the top flight of motor racing: so, who's next?
The GP2 year began in Abu Dhabi in February before being blown off course amidst the turmoil of political unrest in Bahrain, but then went on to deliver another year of great racing alongside the European F1 Grand Prix events before returning to where it all began, with the GP2 Final celebration at the Yas Marina Circuit.
In between were 24 races on some of the best race tracks in the world, from Monaco to Silverstone, Spa to Monza - and even a one-off return to the old F1 track at Imola. And during the course of those dozen race weekends we got to know a whole new generation of potential motor racing stars-in-waiting.
We needed no introduction to one of them, however: Romain Grosjean has already been in F1, but now he was back to take care of unfinished business from 2009 in the feeder series. And he did exactly that, sweeping both the GP2 Asia and GP2 Europe championships so completely that there was even talk that he might be snatched up by F1 again before the end of the season.
But while Grosjean romped away with it, the battle for second place couldn't have been fiercer: Luca Filippi, Jules Bianchi, Charles Pic, Sam Bird, Marcus Ericsson, Christian Vietoris and more all vied to be the best of the rest, and along the way many of them got noticed by F1 teams for the Young Drivers Test for their first taste in a Grand Prix car.
So how did the GP2 Class of 2011 fare in your eyes? Who was the best? Was it really Grosjean, or do you have your eyes on someone else as a future F1 world champion? This was your chance to tell us, as we give you the opportunity to have your say on 20 of the drivers who have competed across GP2, GP2 Asia and the GP2 Final events this season.
