Simon Trummer has been added to the Rapax line-up for the upcoming 2013 GP2 Series championship, the team announced on Monday.
“I'm honoured to be part of Team Rapax," said the 23-year-old Swiss driver. "I followed their races in the last few years and I'm sure I'll be able to take full advantage from some great support from them."
“We're very happy to have Simon on-board for the 2013 season," said team CEO Andrea Bergamini.
Trummer moved into his maiden season in GP2 in 2012 with Arden, having previously competed in the GP3 Series. He had a fairly typical rookie year, with only three points finishes (his best result coming at Valencia when he took seventh place in the sprint race) but he showed impressive consistency and ability to stay out of trouble, recording just one retirement in the 24 races of the 2012 season.
"Last year, making his début in a tough series for rookies like GP2, he showed he is a consistent driver and adopted a really professional approach," said Bergamini. "We hope to contribute to his growth and we admit we're looking forward to guide him to his maiden top-notch results in the championship".
"I'm at my second GP2 Series season in and relying on the help of the team will be key in achieving the results I aim for," agreed Trummer. "I'm more motivated than ever and I can't wait to be on-track and start working with my new team.
"Being able to run a second season in GP2 is a chance that some drivers don't get and I hope to reward the staff which support me with the best possible results," he added.
Trummer will be joined at Rapax by Monaco' Stefano Coletti, who was confirmed by the team back in October almost as soon as last year's championship was concluded. Coletti raced for Rapax in the last two rounds of the year after parting company with Scuderia Coloni, which has now left GP2 and been replaced by newcomers MP Motorsports.
Coletti worked with Rapax in all four days of post-season testing, with the team also trying out Daniel Juncadella at Jerez and Barcelena. Trummer meanwhile attended the Barcelona sessions with his former team Arden, and the Jerez days with Caterham, before finally deciding to sign for Rapax this week.
Trummer's signing makes Rapax the seventh team to have confirmed all their drivers for the start of the 2013 championship, ahead of the first pre-season test session to be held back at Jerez in Spain on February 26-28.
DAMS, Lotus GP, Arden, Racing Engineering and Carlin have also all announced their drivers for the forthcoming season, and Barwa Addax confirmed on Friday that American driver Jake Rosenzweig would be paired with Indonesia's Rio Haryanto.
Venezuela GP Lazarus and MP Motorsports have each confirmed one of their two drivers (Rene Binder and Daniel de Jong respectively) leaving just Caterham, iSport, Trident and Hilmer Motorsports to make any driver announcements so far.
