After an hour of blissfully uneventful and very productive dry running, Coletti was back on top of the timesheets with Racing Engineering's Fabio Leimer second fastest ahead of Giovesi, Evans, Nasr and Leimer's team mate Julian Leal, while other drivers such as Marcus Ericsson were concentrating on long race distance runs. Over at Russian Time, Frijns continued to spend time learning the hard compound tyres even though most teams had switched to the faster soft options.
Felipe Nasr went fastest for Carlin just before the midway point of the three-hour session, setting a new benchmark time of 1:29.381s which was less than a tenth faster than Coletti. Dillmann was another third of a second back just edging Leimer for fourth place, while Frijns was now making his mark on the soft tyres by leaping into fifth place
The wind was picking up as the session went into its final hour, and Trident packed up early after the poorly Gonzalez finally reached his limits. For the rest of the teams there was a mad flurry to get out on track and put in some fast lap times in a bid to claim the honours on the final day of pre-season testing, meaning, but no one was able to dislodge Nasr at the top of the timing screens or improve on Coletti's morning benchmark. MP Motorsports' Adrian Quaife-Hobbs was the best of the late-runners, dislodging Frijns from fifth place as the chequered flag approached.
That concluded the final day of pre-season testing in Spain. The teams' cars and equipment will now be freighted up and dispatched to Malaysia, in time for the first weekend of the 2013 GP2 Series scheduled for March 22-24 at Sepang International Circuit in support of the F1 Grand Prix of Malaysia.
