Crash.net GP2 Driver of 2012 position:
After three full seasons in GP2 since he first made his debut in 2010 with Ocean Racing, it must have been in the back of Fabio Leimer's mind that 2013 was really the make or break year for him: he would surely never get a better chance to win the title than this, his second year with Racing Engineering. It started impressively enough with back-to-back feature wins in Malaysia and Bahrain, but then wallowed with a string of pointless outings that allowed Stefano Coletti to roar ahead in the standings. But how things then turned around for the 24-year-old Swiss driver: after Silverstone, Leimer never finished out of the points again, picking up a win at Monza and four further podiums in Germany, Hungary, Singapore and most fittingly in the final race at Abu Dhabi the day after he clinched the title, allowing him to celebrate his achievement with champagne on the podium.
