Four penalised after GP2 feature race

Four drivers have been handed post-race penalties by the race stewards following the end of Saturday's GP2 feature race at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Rene Binder, Conor Daly, Stefano Coletti and Daniel de Jong have all been penalised by the race stewards for infractions during the GP2 feature race at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain on Saturday afternoon.

Binder and Daly were both handed 20 second penalties to the race times for having not slowed down sufficiently under yellow flags. Coletti was handed the same penalty, not for the first lap incident in which he made contact with Jolyon Palmer and Mitch Evans but rather for the way he navigated around the crashed cars of Raffaele Marciello and Daniel Abt at turn 10 which saw him run off the track and come close to where a marshall was directing the traffic.

As a result of the penalties, Binder drops to 15th place, Coletti to 16th place and Daly to 18th in the final standings.

The biggest impact of these penalties is on the Sunday sprint race grid, with Binder no longer on the front row. Tio Ellinas also loses the pole position for the race under reverse grid rules but will start start from second place, with Arden's late substitute driver Tom Dillmann now promoted to pole as he stands in for the injured Andre Negrao.

Finally, de Jong has received a drop of ten grid positions after his car was released in an unsafe condition - the Dutch driver lost a wheel on track when he re-joined after his pitstop, and he had to retire.

As de Jong would start from 21st place and therefore not able to serve the full ten-place penalty, the stewards ordered that de Jong will be made to start from the pit lane for Sunday morning's sprint race.

In GP3, Koiranen GP driver Santiago Urrutia was handed a 20 second penalty and docked three penalty points for overtaking Adderly Fong (Jenzer Motorsport) under yellow flags. That drops Urrutia from 20th to 21st position in the final standings.
