GP3: Alex Lynn proud of title achievement

Alex Lynn says he is ecstatic after claiming the GP3 drivers' championship and will now do everything in his power to bring home the teams' title for Carlin
Alex Lynn says he is “massively proud” of winning the GP3 Series drivers' championship and is determined to take home the teams' title for Carlin at the final round in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

Lynn gained an unassailable lead in the championship after his nearest rival Dean Stoneman missed out on pole position. Stoneman started the weekend 47 points behind Lynn and needed the four points for starting on pole to keep his title ambitions alive.

The 24-year-old Englishman was beaten by Marvin Kirchhofer of ART by 0.471s, meaning the title was handed to Lynn before the racing had begun.

“It's so great to take the championship!” The ecstatic Carlin driver said. “I'm really grateful to everyone within the team, they've worked so hard for this all year and it's fantastic to give them this reward – and also awesome for me too. We started the season on a high so I'm massively proud of this achievement.”

The 21-year-old has led the championship since the first round in Barcelona and was by far the most consistent driver this year. Lynn will start tomorrow's race as champion in fourth, just behind his team-mate Emil Bernstorff in third. However, Lynn admitted he would have preferred to have won the title racing his rivals.

“Sure it is a shame not to win it on the track but that's racing and we weren't quite there for pole today. But Emil and I are in a great position for tomorrow and aim to score heavily in the remaining two races of the season.”

Lynn's efforts are now devoted to securing the teams' championship title for Carlin. His team hold a 30 point lead over ART Grand Prix and they are in a strong position to claim the title from the French team who have won it for the past four years.

“Now we switch the focus to bringing home the Teams' title because Carlin deserves that after the season we've had. It's been a tireless effort from everyone; late nights, long days back at the workshop and pushing hard every weekend.”
