GP3: Series confirms season calendar for 2015
The 2015 season of the GP3 Series will once again feature nine rounds across Europe, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
The GP3 Series has confirmed its calendar for 2015, which will once again see the championship contested across Europe, Russia and the United Arab Emirates from March to November.
"I'm delighted that as in 2014, all nine rounds of the GP3 Series season will run alongside the F1 World Championship," said series CEO Bruno Michel on Monday. "This is fantastic exposure for all of our young drivers to race on the same circuits with Pirelli tyres in front of the F1 fraternity.
"The calendar strikes a good balance of European tracks with the two flyaway events at prestigious venues to conclude the year," he added.
The structure of the season is unchanged from 2014, with three pre-season testing events being held in Spain in March and April ahead of the first round of competition at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 8-10.
The season then returns to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria in June, followed by the third round of the year at Silverstone in Great Britain at the start of July. The next round will be in Germany but the exact venue is still to be confirmed, with the third outing of the month following a week later at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary on July 24-26.
After the month-long summer break the series will compete at the historic Spa-Francorchamps and Monza circuits, before setting off for a return to Sochi in Russia in October. There will then be a six week wait for the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
It will be the sixth year of the GP3 championship. Last week it was confirmed that Hilmer Motorsport was to exit the competition and that its grid entries for cars #23, #24 and #25 would be handed to Campos Racing instead.
However, entries #17, #18 and #19 - which would normally have been held by Marussia Manor Racing - are currently listed as still to be announced, effectively confirming that the team will not be returning to the competition in 2015 after missing the last two rounds of the 2014 season following the collapse of the affiliated Marussia F1 team.
