Status Grand Prix announced on Saturday that it has lined up 23-year-old New Zealand race star Richie Stanaway to take part for them in this week's first GP2 pre-season test session.

The three-day test starts on Monday at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, with a second test scheduled for the start of April at the Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain, which is also the venue for the first GP2 race of the year on April 18.

Stanaway drove for Status in GP3 last season and notched up two wins at Silverstone and the Hungaroring and went on to took part in last year's GP2 post-season testing with Status, which is itself stepping up to the feeder series for the first time in 2015.

"Richie is an extremely talented racing driver and following a very strong performance for us in GP3 and an impressive GP2 test, we are delighted to welcome him back into the fold," said Teddy Yip Jr., the principal of Status Grand Prix.

"Loyalty is something we value at Status," Yip added. "This is our d?but GP2 season and having worked very closely with Richie and his team of supporters, we know from experience we have a winning partnership.

Stanaway will be joined in the test this week by Filipino race star Marlon St?ckinger, who has already been confirmed by the team as their full-time driver in the #22 car.

"Testing the GP2 car with Status again next week is a great opportunity for me and will be like joining the dots after being so competitive in last year's post season test," said the Kiwi. "Stepping up from GP3 to the GP2 car for just one day wasn't quite long enough to reach my full potential last year.

"Now I am competing in the full three-day test it will be a huge benefit to me, enabling me to get up to speed and learn everything I can from the team."

Prior to racing last year in GP3, Stanaway picked up titles in the MTA Formula Ford Championship, the ADAC Formel Masters and the German Formula Three Championship.

Whether or not Stanaway is still in contention to fill the team's second GP2 race seat in the #23 for the full 2015 season remains to be seen. As well as Status, there are also still available seats yet to be filled at MP Motorsport, Hilmer Motorport and Lazarus.
