Last year's European Formula 3 champion Esteban Ocon has joined ART Grand Prix for the upcoming GP3 series.

The highly-rated French driver will make his debut in the Formula 1 feeder series after taking part in an F1 race weekend with Lotus in Abu Dhabi last year. The 18-year-old made his single-seater car debut just three years ago in the Formula Reanult championship before moving into Euro F3 and claiming the title in 2014 with a race to spare.

The Euro F3 title also bagged Ocon a EUR100,000 scholarship from Pirelli to compete in GP3 for 2015, and ART GP welcome the young driver with open arms.

"ART Grand Prix is pleased to work with Esteban who had an exceptional season in 2014," ART team manager Sebastien Philippe said. "We should not minimize the magnitude of the task at hand because Esteban is only just starting in GP3 and will have to adapt to the requirements of the discipline in the first race. But we trust in his talent and potential to achieve this and to join in the fight for the title."

ART GP and Ocon plan to use his rookie season to familiarise him with the F1 circuits and the step up in competition.

"I am very pleased to contest GP3 with ART Grand Prix because it's the project that I wanted to happen the most," Ocon said. "After a great season in 2014 and given the experience and the team's track record, my ambition is to repeat this in 2015 and win the title.

"There are a few question marks because I have not yet tried out the car, but ART Grand Prix has all the skills, data and talent to allow me to have such high ambitions."

The Frenchman will get his first taste of GP3 action in the opening pre-season test in Estoril next week. Ocon completes ART GP's GP3 driver line-up for 2015, joining the already announced Marvin Kirchhofer and Alfonso Celis Jr.
