GP3: Fewer teams, more cars for 2016

GP3 Series organisers have permitted competing teams to expand to run up to four cars from the 2016 season.

GP3 Series organisers have responded to a request from competing teams to increase the number of entries each is permitted to field from next season.

With the grid dwindling to just seven teams for 2016, the powers-that-be have decided to allow each of the confirmed runners to field a maximum of four cars instead of the three that have been authorised since the series' inaugural campaign. As a result, the 2016 GP3 grid will be made up of a maximum 28 cars.

"I am pleased to announce that our GP3 teams will be allowed to line up a fourth car next season,” series CEO Bruno Michel confirmed, β€œIt is something that has been discussed between us and the teams this year and I feel that it will give them an even stronger financial base for the season to come.”

The new GP3/16 car will be delivered early next year to the following teams, all of which have been given an entry for the next three year cycle:

Arden International (GBR)
ART Grand Prix (FRA)
Campos Racing (ESP)
DAMS (FRA)
Jenzer Motorsport (SUI)
Koiranen GP (FIN)
Trident (ITA)

The 2015 GP3 Series culminates with back-to-back events in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi over the next two weekends.
