DTM Champion and Mercedes F1 test driver Pascal Wehrlein is set to get his first run in a GP2 Series car this week as one of several newcomers set to be trialled in Abu Dhabi.

The German, who clinched the 2015 DTM crown - Mercedes' first since Paul di Resta in 2010 - is lined up to test with multiple European F3 champions Prema Racing, which will be making its own GP2 debut having been granted an entry for 2016.

Though Wehrlein has previously ruled out a move into GP2 following his DTM success and is currently still considered in line for a Manor F1 drive, the test is seen as an indication that Mercedes could well attempt to further his single-seater knowledge next year the latter option falls through.
