GP2 Barcelona: Giovinazzi penalised, Marciello re-inherits sprint pole

Despite seemingly ending his race in the gravel trap on the final lap, a chequered flag error reinstates Raffaele Marciello into eighth.
Raffaele Marciello will start the GP2 Series sprint race at the Circuit de Catalunya from pole position despite being punted off on the final lap of the feature encounter after it was judged the race was ended erroneously.

Marciello looked to have lost the eighth place he needed to secure pole position for race two when countryman Antonio Giovinazzi pushed him off on the final lap at turn four.

However, Marciello was given a lucky reprieve when it was occurred the chequered flag was shown a lap too early, prompting amended results that classified him in eighth position. As a result, he starts the sprint race from pole position alongside Jordan King.

Despite Marciello's favourable outcome, the Prema driver was still punished for the move, with a 20secs time penalty dropping him out of the top
