Sergey Sirotkin has notched up his second pole position of the season in GP2 at the Red Bull Ring to carry his momentum from Baku.

The Renault F1 development driver ignited his GP2 campaign in Azerbaijan after a point-less opening two rounds with a double podium result and has continued his upturn in form by taking pole position for the feature race in Austria.

Finding a clearer section of track in the congested qualifying Sirotkin produced an impressive 1m 13.663s to land provisional pole.

The only driver to enjoy stronger results in Baku was Antonio Giovinazzi having claimed a double victory and he narrowly missed out on pinching top spot from the Russian again by just 0.006s.

The Italian beat his PREMA Powerteam team-mate Pierre Gasly by almost two-tenths to see the French driver take third on the grid ahead of Luca Ghiotto and early GP2 championship leader Artem Markelov.

GP2 rookie Raffaele Maricello qualified just behind his Russian Time team-mate in sixth but ahead of British duo Oliver Rowland and Alex Lynn.

But Lynn could be set for a grid penalty after blocking Jordan King on his final flyer which sees the Manor development driver start a lowly 14th.

King's tam-mate Norman Nato starts from ninth on the grid as Mitch Evans completes the top ten starts in his Jagonya Ayam Campos.
