Brazilian sources insist that Rodrigo Sperafico will again join his brother in the FIA F3000 Championship, after agreeing a deal with the Italian Durango team.

The two campaigned for separate teams in 2001, with Ricardo Sperafico winning the penultimate race of the year at Spa-Francorchamps, but Rodrigo saw his season end early when a budgetary shortfall cur short his time with Coloni. Now, however, he appears to be getting a second crack at the series courtesy of strong testing performances with Durango.

Sharing a single car with German series returnee Alex Muller, Sperafico recorded the second fastest time of the recent official test in Barcelona, despite only running on day two. His performance, and indeed that of Muller, was enough to prompt the team to offer contracts for 2002.

"The entire day allowed us to put in a good performance with the new car," Sperafico reported, "I had four sets of new tyres and used three sets in the morning session, when I made my time.

"The car was well balanced, but we made some changes that made it better still. However, conditions in the afternoon did not allow me to obtain a lower time."

Happy to have agreed a deal with the team for the coming season, both drivers will enjoy a private test at Misano next Thursday before heading for the official March sessions at Imola and Silverstone.
