Danielsson finally confirmed as champion
Comtec Racing's Alx Danielsson has finally been awarded the 2006 World Series by Renault drivers' title some three months after the championship finished unresolved, after Draco Multiracing's appeal against a disqualification was upheld.

In a season shrouded by controversy and confusion with regards to several appeals that saw results taken away and reinstated, it was the argument over Pastor Maldonado's disqualification from a race win at Misano that prove the most pivotal, the 15 points he would regain being enough to earn him the drivers' title over Danielsson.

Nonetheless, despite two weeks of deliberation on the race that occurred back in July, the Italian National Court of Appeal confirmed Maldonado's disqualification, for a technical non-compliance, will stand, therefore confirming the Swede as the long awaited champion.

As a result the final standings see Danielsson take the title with 112 points, Borja Garcia second (107), Maldonado third (102) and Andy Soucek fourth (99).

Elsewhere though, the court overturned a penalty of 25 seconds on Ben Hanley for the second race at Misano, the Brit being dropped from first to sixth on that occasion. As a result, Hanley has been reinstated to the top spot, therefore earning a first World Series win for both himself and Cram Competition.

His championship position has improved to eighth place ahead of Eric Salignon as a result and denies Sebastian Vettel the status of a double victory on his debut at Misano for Carlin.
