Two 'junior category' champions have confirmed their places among those attending the final GP2 Series test of 2007, at Paul Ricard next week, as they look to step up in 2008.
Inaugural Formula Master title-winner Jérôme d'Ambrosio will claim his prize of an outing with the resurgent Campos Grand Prix on Tuesday [30 October], the first of four scheduled days of driver evaluation at the Mediterranean venue. d'Ambrosio, who claimed five wins in the first season of the WTCC support series, admits that forward to impressing team boss Adrian Campos as he seeks to continue his rise up the ladder.
"This is a very important step for me, as was becoming champion, and I really hope I can show the team the best of my skills,” the 21-year old reasoned, “They have seen what I can do in a Formula Master car this year, but now it's up to me to prove I can drive to the same standard in a GP2 car.
“I've already been in touch with Adrian to discuss the technical aspects of testing their car, and have met the team on a previous occasion, so the whole process feels very natural. Now the only thing left is for me to do well on the day.”
d'Ambrosio will be joined among the Ricard field by new Euro F3000 champion Davide Rigon, who clinched a test with Fisichella Motor Sport International as reward for taking the 2007 title. The Italian's run comes earlier than expected, however, after he clinched the title with a round to run in Barcelona.
Rigon, who has also earned an F1 superlicence thanks to his success, visited FMSI for a seat fitting earlier this week.
"I've been surprised by Davide's performances and am really happy that he will test with us in Le Castellet," team principal Paolo Coloni admitted, "I believe he is the most talented young driver in Italy at the moment so I'm sure he will impress."
