Showing just what a late-season turnaround in fortune can do for a team, DPR will be among the busiest teams at next week's final GP2 Series group test as it runs no fewer than six drivers in its two cars.
The team is using the final four-day session to prepare for the forthcoming GP2 Asia series and give opportunities to potential newcomers eyeing both the new competition and next season's 'regular' series.
The first day of testing will see 2007 regular Andy Soucek - who topped the timesheets in the post-season Jerez test at the beginning of the month - again joined by Luca Filippi. The Italian also posted top five times at Jerez, and has tested for no-one else this off-season, suggesting that he has other plans for 2008.
Soucek will remain in one car on the second day, with South African Adrian Zaugg moving in alongside him, before Karun Chandhok and Oliver Jarvis take over on day three. Britain's Ben Hanley is confirmed for the final day, with the second car still to be filled.
Zaugg debuted in this season's GP2 championship with Arden International, but is fitting testing commitments around his role as South Africa's pilot in A1GP, while Chandhok also has a year's experience in the series under his belt, even pipping Soucek to victory at Spa in September. Jarvis, meanwhile, will get his first taste of GP2 after falling just short of clinching this year's All-Japan F3 crown, but brings experience of both A1GP - where he has won races for Great Britain - and the World Series by Renault, where he was tipped to race this season. Finally, Hanley will turn out for DPR just days after contesting the WSbR finale with a chance of snatching the title.
“We have two objectives in this final test of 2007," team boss David Price confirmed, "Preparing for the new Asian series is one focus for us and we're pleased to have Andy with us to work on the car development ahead of this. However, we're also evaluating a number of drivers for this series and for next season.
"We're pleased to be giving two British youngsters a taste of a GP2 car, and I'm sure both of them will put in strong performances. Olly and Ben are both experienced drivers who have considerable success in their careers so far, so I believe they deserve the chance to step up a level and sample the handling and power of the GP2 car."
