DPR team principal David Price has confirmed that his squad is in serious negotiations with Will Bratt regarding a race drive in next year's GP2 Series - and is also keen to secure the Briton's services for at least one outing in the current GP2 Asia Series.
The category rookie produced an eye-opening performance on only his second outing in one of Price's cars at Paul Ricard earlier this week, ending Tuesday's session with the second fastest time and outperforming a whole host of experienced GP2 competitors.
“The whole team is absolutely delighted with the performance Will produced, to end the day second fastest was a fantastic effort and he clearly has a lot of ability,” Price said, “The team did a good job and Will was very professional.
“We're very keen to talk to him about filling one of our race seats in 2009 - we held conversations after his first test with us and we're even more focused on trying to get a package together with him now following Tuesday's run. It would be great to get him in a DPR car for a couple of GP2 Asia races as well – we'll see what happens.”
Bratt, who finished sixth overall in this season's FIAT Spanish F3 Championship, is 100 per cent committed to making the step-up to GP2 next year and is in the process of putting together a package of support to finance his maiden season in the F1 feeder series.
“GP2 is the only place I want to be in 2009,” he insisted, despite having just one year of F3 behind him, “Finishing second fastest during the test was great and I know I can be a consistent frontrunner in GP2.
"I've proven I've got the pace and the ability and now I want to capitalise on that. Given the backing and support of investors and/or a manufacturer programme, I know I can win in GP2.
Should he be able to graduate, DPR looks the most likely destination for Bratt after they gelled in testing.
“I felt very comfortable indeed in the DPR car, the team has been fantastic to work with and I want to thank David Price for enabling me to show what I can achieve at this level," he noted, "We're going all out to secure a GP2 drive for 2009.”
