Hulkenberg to race in GP2.

As expected, ART Grand Prix has confirmed that Nico Hulkenberg will complete its driver line-up for the 2009 GP2 Series season.

The young German stormed to the F3 Euroseries crown in 2008 running with ART and was widely expected to make the move into the F1 feeder series for the new season.

Having taken part in a number of GP2 test sessions, Hulkenberg has now been confirmed alongside Pastor Maldonado for the new season and admitted that, while it wouldn't be easy, he was aiming high.

"ART Grand Prix and me; it sounds like a good combination!" he said. "We know each other very well and we have worked great together so far. I had four days of testing with the team and the GP2 car and I feel comfortable with everything up to this point.

"Next year will be a tough one because the GP2 Championship is extremely competitive with great teams and great drivers, but I think we have a good package ourselves. It's difficult to see where we are going because there are some tracks I don't know and the single practice session every round is very short, but we have to set our target high.

"We might not be able to fight for the podium in the beginning but it is my aim, as well as the teams, to climb up there and to try and get a win or two."

Team boss Frederic Vasseur said there was no hesitation in promoting Hulkenberg up to GP2 for 2009 and he said he was confident that his driver line-up would see ART fighting for the title.

"There is no need to give the reasons that convinced us to continue our collaboration with Nico," he said. "His records speak for themselves! Nico is a fast and talented driver but also a young man who is very well balanced. He has strong race intelligence and positive human relationships.

"With Nico and Pastor, ART Grand Prix will aim to return to the place that was ours in 2005 and 2006 as champions."
