Lotus ART's Esteban Gutierrez came of age at Valencia with a dominating display on the streets of Valencia for the Sunday sprint race.

Gutierrez took the lead at the restart after an early safety car, after pressuring polesitter Kral into running too deep. Luiz Razia followed him through and gave chase, but Gutierrez pace was simply too strong and seemed to only improve as the race went on, finally winning by a margin of 12.9s at the end of the 23 laps.

The feature race winner Romain Grosjean exited the race early, his spin at turn 5 collecting Rodolofo Gonzalez and Charles Pic and bringing out the sole safety car of the morning.
