Silverstone - Race results (1)

9 July 2011

A heavy rain shower just before the scheduled start of the Silverstone GP2 feature race saw the event start ten minutes late and behind a safety car for three laps, but it didn't stop Lotus ART's Jules Bianchi from converting pole to a commanding lead by the mid-point of the race once things did get underway.

The changing conditions meant that cars that fared well early on were struggling as the race approached mid-distance leading to a number of great on-track overtaking battles. Finally everyone came in for their mandatory pit stops and changed to slicks, which once again shifted the balance of power among the cars.

It also eliminated Jules Bianchi's lead and left in an extended multi-corner knife fight with Racing Engineering's Christian Vietoris for the lead on lap 16. Vietoris finally got ahead but then out-braked himself into the next left-hander, allowing Bianchi to immediately strike back and tear back the lead again and slowly he started rebuilding his earlier lead and ultimately won the race by over 4.1s.
