Silverstone - Race results (2)

10 July 2011

A sunny, dry day meant a relatively tame and straightforward GP2 sprint race at Silverstone compared with yesterday's wet thriller, with championship leader Romain Grosjean taking advantage of the situation to drive a calm and assured route to the top of the podium.

A starting grid stall for Stefano Coletti allowed Giedo van der Garde to take the lead ahead of Dani Clos, while Sam Bird had to take evasive action around the stricken Trident and ended up losing third place to Grosjean. Van der Garde never looked entirely comfortable or up to his usual pace and was overtaken by Grosjean in the closing stages of the race, who then took advantage of Clos also struggling on worn tyres to overtake and pull out a strong lead by the chequered flag.

The victory means that Grosjean has outscored his closest championship rivals in both races of the British round and has pulled out a more comfortable lead of nine points over van der Garde in the GP2 title points battle compared to the single point advantage he had coming in to this weekend.

Round 6 of the GP2 season is in Germany in two weeks time.
