GP2 » Valencia - Race results (1) - Updated

Esteban Gutiérrez put Lotus GP on the top of the Valencia feature race podium, after a cruelly timed safety car wrecked the hopes of his team mate James Calado.
For a circuit often seemingly widely despised in F1 circles as being dull and boring, the GP2 feature race on the same Valencia waterside streets proved unexpectedly incident-packed and eventful.

What looked to be a dominating lights-to-flag run by pole sitter James Calado came unstuck when a safety car was called for midrace due to debris, before Calado had come in for his mandatory pit stop.

That left his Lotus GP team mate Esteban Gutiérrez competing with Marcus Ericsson, Luiz Razia and Fabio Leimer for the win through two more safety car periods - including one for Fabrizio Crestani being rolled by impact from Jolyon Palmer - before the time-capped race was ended early two laps before the scheduled race distance had been completed.

A number of penalties modified the result, and two ten-place grid penalties will be served by Jolyon Palmer and Rodolfo Gonzalez on Sunday for causing accidents.
