Silverstone - Race results (2)

8 July 2012

Luiz Razia took a superb win in the Silverstone sprint race on Sunday morning, holding off an initial surge from Johnny Cecotto Jr off the starting grid and setting up his own decisive strike on main GP2 Series championship rival Davide Valsecchi to take third position into Bridge.

A repeat performance by Razia on Valsecchi's DAMS team mate Felipe Nasr secured second place, and Razia then set his sights on polesitter Giedo van der Garde to claim the lead at the chicane. Van der Garde himself flat-spotted his tyres while trying to defend his lead, and ultimately paid the price when he was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop.

Lotus GP's Esteban Gutiérrez made a late charge to try and put himself on the podium, but ended up tangling with Johnny Cecotto Jr. on the final lap. Gutiérrez was pushed wide onto the grass by the Barwa Addax, and when he tried to return to the track without lifting, his car snapped right and gave a hard hit on the side of Cecotto's car, sending the Venezuelan driver off gravel. The incident is sure to be reviewed by the stewards.
