GP2 » Barcelona - Test times - March 5

Rapax driver Stefano Coletti completed the first day of the pre-season test at Barcelona on top, after rain hit the morning session.

Conditions were emphatically cold, wet and windy on Tuesday morning at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona for the first of three days of GP2 pre-season testing for the 13 teams and 26 drivers.

James Calado was fastest in the morning session on the 2.892-mile, 16-turn circuit, but his time of 1:50.928s emphasises how wet conditions were. A dry line started to appear in the afternoon session, and finally for the last 90 minutes of the day conditions were good enough to allow drivers to break open the slick tyres. Coletti ended up with the best time at the end of this period with a lap of 1:29.868s.

There were red flags in the morning for Rio Haryanto (Barwa Addax), Kevin Giovesi (Venezuela GP Lazarus) and simultaneous incidents for Rodolfo Gonzalez (Trident) and Ma Qing Hua (Caterham), while in the afternoon there was only one stoppage for Gonzalez going off again, this time at turn 5.
