Malaysia - Sprint race results

24 March 2013

Rapax driver Stefano Coletti had looked set for victory in the Saturday feature race only to be denied late by tyre wear issues, but he set the record straight by claiming victory in Sunday's sprint race at Sepang in Malaysia instead, after starting from sixth place on the reverse grid.

Carlin's Felipe Nasr also had a strong run, slipping past polesitter Stéphane Richelmi early in the race to run second to Coletti for the remainder of the 22 laps. Richelmi struggled with a lock-up six laps form the end, which gifted a podium and dream start to his GP2 Series career for Arden's Micth Evans.

There was disaster for James Calado, who clipped the back of Saturday winner Fabio Leimer's Racing Engineering car on the first lap, sending the ART into the path of Leimer's team mate Juliàn Leal and Russian Time's Sam Bird, taking all three cars out of contention - the only retirements of the race, which stayed rain-free despite the forecasts.

Calado was subsequently handed a ten-place grid penalty for the next round of the GP2 Series season at Bahrain in a month's time on April 19-21.
