GP3 Nurburgring: Race results

ART's Facu Regalia topped qualifying and won race 1 at the Nurburgring, but suffered a frustrating Sunday where the podium was swept by a trio of British drivers.
Alexander Sims was fastest in Friday practice on his one-off return to Status GP for the Nurburgring round of the 2013 GP3 Series in place of the team's regular driver Adderly Fong who had a clashing commitment in the Chinese-based Audi R8 LMS Cup. Sims went on to qualify in seventh position on Saturday morning, still comfortably ahead of his Status team mates; pole position went to ART's Facu Regalia who claimed his maiden series pole putting him alongside Marussia Manor Racing's Tio Ellinas for the start of Saturday afternoon's race 1. Eric Lichtenstein (Carlin) was handed a three-place penalty for impeding Alex Fontana (Jenzer Motorsport) in qualifying that dropped him from 12th to 15th place on the grid.

Regalia went on to convert his pole position to victory in race 1 on Saturday afternoon ahead of Ellinas and ART's Jack Harvey. Carmen Jordá (Bamboo Engineering) black-flagged on lap 10 after failing to serve a drive-thru penalty in time for not respecting track limits, while Luis Sa Silva was handed a ten-place grid drop for race 2 after colliding with his Carlin team mate Eric Lichtenstein, putting both drivers out of the race.

Regalia had a frustrating race 2, stalling on the grid on the formation lap which meant he had to take the start from pit road, but recurring problems forced him to retire mid-race. At the chequered fag, the podium places (and indeed the top four positions) all went to Britons, Melville Mckee (Bamboo Engineering) claiming the win after bearing up under sustained pressure from Sims, and Carlin's Nick Yelloly taking the final podium spot leaving Bamboo's Lewis Williamson as the odd Brit without a trophy for his day's efforts. there was a five-place grid penalty for Status GP's Josh Webster for causing a collision with Ryan Cullen (Marussia Manor Racing) which Webster will need to serve at the next GP3 round at Hungary in three weeks time.
