Tom Dillmann

Tom Dillmann

You have to feel a little sorry for Tom Dillmann, who arrived on the GP2 scene in impressive style with a third place in the post-season GP2 Final exhibition sprint race at Abu Dhabi in 2011. That conspicuous début resulted in a seat with Rapax for 2012, and it was Dillmann who put a stop to Davide Valsecchi's sweep of the four Bahrain rounds by winning the second sprint race in April. After two weekends out of the points, it appeared that Dillmann's sponsorship money had run out which forced Rapax to find a replacement driver with deeper pockets, who turned out to be Daniël de Jong. Dillmann did have a couple of reprieves - standing in for unwell team mate Ricardo Teixeira at Valencia, and for de Jong in Germany when the Dutch driver had a conflicting Auto GP World Series commitment, but hopes for a return to action for the final two races at the end of the season were dashed when Rapax appointed Stefano Coletti instead.
