Max Chilton

Max Chilton

For his third full season in GP2 - and his second with Carlin - Max Chilton's target was surely to feature in the championship battle and win a few races. That way, his role as Marussia F1's testing and reserve driver might lead to even bigger and better things in 2013. Chilton joined Luiz Razia and Davide Valsecchi on the podium at the first race of the year in Malaysia and he would finish out of the points only once in the first 13 races, but it still wasn't quite have enough to stay in the top four in the championship as the season progressed. Finally a second place in Monaco and two wins in Hungary and Singapore enabled him to finish just ahead of rookie of the year James Calada - not quite the dream season he might have wanted, but the sort of solid all-round level-headed performance that F1 teams rather like when casting around for new talent.
