Roush-Yates Engines has blamed a supplier part for the issues that have forced five Ford-powered Daytona Prototypes out of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Both Krohn Racing, both Michael Shank Racing and the AIM Autosport cars were all forced to quit the opening round of the Grand-Am Rolex Series season during the night after running into engine issues, with the problem on all five cars believed to be linked to the crank sensor.

The #76 Krohn entry and the #6 MSR machine both fell in a short space of time while running strongly towards the front of the field with the remaining three failing to make it through the night.

Currently, the SunTrust Racing and Doran Racing entries are running, although the Doran team is running with an older spec engine in the #77 car.

“Evidently, we've got a bad batch of manufactured parts and showed poorly on the race track,” John Maddox, manager of the Cammer engine programme for Roush-Yates Engines, said. “There is a part that we purchased that was manufactured from another supplier that has let us down.

“We will be checking into it and resolving the issue.”
