Action Express Racing has revealed its plans for the 2010
Grand Am Rolex Series season after giving fans a glimpse of the #9 Porsche Riley during the December test at Daytona.
The team has been formed for the 2010 season by
Daytona businessman and long-time Brumos Racing affiliate Bob Johnson after Brumos elected to focus its attention on a single car for the new campaign.
The team will run the car owned by Johnson with Terry Borcheller and Joao Barbosa taking on driving duties during the season. Mike Rockenfeller and Ryan Dalziel will join the pair for the season opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.
"The advantages were many,” Johnson said of the new venture. “There were several Brumos key team members available to lead the team, along with two of the top drivers in the series. I was able to make arrangements to share raceshop space with the Brumos team and keep the group intact in what developed into a win-win situation for everyone.
“We are now working hard on preparations for the Rolex 24 and investigating potential sponsors. I believe that our new #9 Riley Porsche V8 by Lorenzo Brothers is going to be very competitive this season."
Barbosa and Borcheller meanwhile are both up for the challenge of the season ahead.
“It's been a while since I had a full season effort at this level, so when I got the call I was ecstatic,” Borcheller said. “I'll be putting in training over the winter and getting back into the rhythm of a DP car. Haven driven with Barbosa many times, even before our Brumos days, I'm really looking forward to the Rolex 24 this year. After that race, I'll have quite a bit of track time under my belt so I'll be ready for Homestead and the rest of the season.
“Starting with a new car is always a challenge, but I've been in that position before. Plus, this car is still a Riley DP, so while the engine is being developed, the package is not new. Having the same crew is also a big advantage, because we already communicate and work well together. For me, it's kind of like coming home.”
