AIM Autosport reveals eleven race programme
6 January 2010
The AIM Autosport team has announced that it will compete in eleven of the twelve events on the Grand Am Rolex Series season.
The team will miss the season opening Rolex 24 at Daytona to ensure its participation in the remainder of the season, with Mark Wilkins and Burt Frisselle set to make their seasonal bow at the wheel of the #16 Ford Riley in the Miami Grand Prix at Homestead.
“We had to make some tough decisions,” team principal Ian Willis said, “and in the end we felt it was important to ensure the team would compete in the maximum number of races given the funding in place.
“The Rolex 24, while the jewel of the series, carries a high cost for a single event. We are continuing to work on acquiring sponsors and there is interest as the economy is slowly recovering, but as all teams have experienced, it has been a difficult road. We are assured though, to be there for the rest of the season.”
Despite the team electing to miss the Rolex 24, both Wilkins and Frisselle wil be in action after a deal was struck to see the pair join forces with Michael Shank Racing for the round the clock event.
The pair will partner John Pew and Oz Negri in the #60 entry for the race.
“AIM Autosport and Shank Racing have a long history together,” Willis added. “Ever since I worked with Shank Racing in Formula Atlantic nine years ago we have always enjoyed a great working relationship. We are happy to see Mark and Burt in a Ford powered car with a chance to win.”
