Grand-Am: Top ten for Mowlem at Daytona.

Johnny Mowlem kicked off his 2007 season with a race of highs and lows at Daytona as the Doncaster Racing squad came home eighth in class in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Mowlem and his four co-drivers had the class lead with six hours to go in the race, but a leaking water hose meant they lost about 13 minutes in pit lane – enough to put the team and its Porsche GT3 Cup car into chase mode over the final quarter of the race.

"The Doncaster team put together a fantastic car," Mowlem said. "Twice we worked our way right back to the front and had just taken the lead when we had a small problem with a large effect.

“Obviously, I'm very disappointed right now that we didn't win because we had the car to win, and when that happens you have to try and make sure you grab the opportunity, but I'm so very pleased for the team that we made it to the finish. The crew were exceptional."

Mowlem's next chance to win will come in March at the Twelve Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway, where he will co-drive a factory-backed Ferrari 430 GT Berlinetta for Risi Competizione.
